Strength: Front Squat 1 RM
PSA from Michael Savat:
First we’re gonna grind the air squat then we’re gonna set a bunch of PR’s in the front squat!
The squat is the most basic of movements, yet it is one that fewer and fewer people can do well. Sitting all day, lack of mobility and lack of understanding of what makes up a good squat are all contributing factors. An immature body weight squat can only lead to further issues when we put a weight on our backs. Many of the issues that jump up & grab us doing a front squat (thoracic spine rounding, butt winking, etc.) are there in a body weight squat. In other words the better your body weight squat is the better your front squat will be!
“Squatting below parallel is bad for my knees”. Yeah not so much. I can tell you where that wife’s tale came from. Maybe we will talk about weight belts and their correct use if we have time…
